Over the last 25 years, I have taught mediation nationally and internationally to over 13,000 professionals. Today, I have limited my role as a Primary Trainer providing certification classes, but I am still affiliated with two fantastic providers. Elder Mediation Training:
As our population ages, mediators who specialize in Elder Mediation and Shared Family Decision Making will be more and more in demand. This 4-day comprehensive course covers a wide variety of issues related to family dynamics and the legal and financial issues Elder Mediators encounter. Learn more HERE.
Continuing Mediator Education (CME)
Did you know that you can complete your entire CME requirement virtually (watching videos) FOR FREE? It’s true! AND you can double-dip in that you can use hours that you used for another profession (attorney, mental health professional, realtor, etc.) towards the general education portion of your CMEs.
The Rules that outline mediator certification renewal can be found here: https://www.flcourts.gov/content/download/799041/file/renewal-excerpts-op-governing-the-certification-of-mediators-november-2021.pdf.
The Renewal Application, CME Reporting Form, and other relevant information can be found here: https://www.flcourts.gov/Resources-Services/Alternative-Dispute-Resolution/Training-Information/Continuing-Mediation-Education and here https://www.flcourts.gov/Resources-Services/Alternative-Dispute-Resolution/Mediator-Renewal-and-CME-Information.
The DRC has a list of videos you can use for CME here: https://www.flcourts.gov/content/download/633571/file/Free%20CME%20January%202025.pdf.
Legal Fuel: The Practice Resource Center of the Florida Bar has an extensive list of Free CLE Programs. Many programs are relevant to mediation, some are not. Do not use any CLE program that is clearly focused on the practice of law. https://www.legalfuel.com/free-cle/
The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare has many tutorials for Legal Professionals. https://ncsacw.acf.hhs.gov/
www.Mediate.com has an extensive list of videos. And, finally, if all else fails, just go to Youtube and type mediation into the search bar. You will find a plethora of videos that are CME appropriate. One of my favorite content creators is Natalie Armstrong-Motin. And, of course, my Divorce Depot podcasts can be used as general CME if you are certified as a Family mediator.
